Danny Granger will discuss buyout with 76ers, according to report

After being traded from the Indiana Pacers to the Philadelphia 76ers, forward Danny Granger wants to discuss a buyout.

Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

Newly-acquired Philadelphis 76ers forward Danny Granger expects to have discussions about a buyout with general manager Sam Hinkie, reports ESPN's Marc Stein.

Granger is apparently "miffed" about the way his former team, the Indiana Pacers, traded him to a rebuilding squad just before the Thursday trade deadline, and he could be interested in latching on with a playoff-bound squad looking for perimeter help.

The Pacers shocked those both inside the clubhouse and out with their trade deadline buzzer-beater that swapped the veteran for Evan Turner and Lavoy Allen.

Granger leaves a team where he acted as the bridge from the old Pacers to the new and joins the second-worst team in the NBA, one that will provide little usefulness for Granger and his expiring contract.

So of course it seems plausible that Granger would want out, but Philadelphia might be hesitant. The Sixers gave up a talent in Turner presumably to use Granger’s expiring contract in a sign-and-trade this summer. If he were bought out, the forward would also lose his Bird Rights, which for a 30-year-old could be more significant considering he might be looking at his last long-term contract of his career.
