Earl Clark will sign with Knicks, according to report

The Knicks will add Clark to help a defense that’s one of the league’s worst.

David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

Free-agent forward Earl Clark is finalizing an agreement with the New York Knicks, according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

Clark signed a two-year deal, $8.5 million with the Cleveland Cavaliers this past summer, although the second year was fully unguaranteed. Clark was anointed the starter at small forward at the beginning of the season, but he didn't work out as hoped. The 26-year-old was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers at the trade deadline before being released and clearing waivers to become a free agent.

The Knicks opened up two roster spots earlier in the week when they bought out Metta World Peace and Beno Udrih, and Clark will fill one of those slots. In addition to Clark, New York would like to sign another defensive-minded player to help with a defense that's currently 27th in defensive rating. Dahntay Jones could be that other player, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

On the season, Clark is averaging 5.2 points and 2.8 rebounds while shooting just 37.5 percent overall and 34.5 percent from three in 45 games.
