Caron Butler's buyout with the Milwaukee Bucks is scheduled to be completed Wednesday, and the veteran forward is expected to land with the Miami Heat, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

The Heat are the clear favorites to sign Butler after his buyout with the Bucks is completed.

The Bucks acquired Butler, who hails from Wisconsin, from the Phoenix Suns this past offseason. But with the team in disarray, Milwaukee and the 33-year-old are on the verge of a buyout of his $8 million contract so he can go to a contender. Since the buyout will be finished Wednesday, Butler will clear waivers in time to be eligible to play in the postseason.
Butler does have history in Miami, as he was selected by the Heat 10th overall in the 2002 draft. Butler played his first two NBA seasons in Miami before getting dealt to the Los Angeles Lakers in the Shaquille O'Neal trade.
Butler has struggled a bit with this shooting this season, making just 38.7 percent of his shots overall. On a more positive note, he's shooting 36.1 percent from three, and that's after he shot 38.8 percent from long range with the Los Angeles Clippers last season. Considering how important the three-point shot is to the Heat, that solid shooting from deep could come in handy.
Butler could also be helpful simply as another body for the long and arduous postseason. Ray Allen and Shane Battier are both getting up there in age, so having another capable veteran wing on the roster should be useful.
The Heat did just use their final roster spot on a 10-day contract for DeAndre Liggins, but Butler could sign once that deal is up. Miami could also waive Toney Douglas in order to sign Butler, although that would result in a higher tax bill than the first option.
