Pierre Jackson sets D-League scoring record with 58 points

Jackson scored 27 of his 58 points in the fourth quarter, including 12 in two minutes.

USA TODAY Sports

Former Baylor star Pierre Jackson has been tearing up the NBA Development League all season, and his play soared to new heights on Tuesday night. Jackson set a D-League record with 58 points to lead the Idaho Stampede to a 136-122 win over the Texas Legends.

Jackson's 58 points broke the previous record of 53 set by Morris Almond in 2008 and matched by Will Conroy in 2009. Jackson shot 24-of-33 from the field and 7-of-13 from three-point land in 45 minutes, and he also added eight assists and six rebounds. 27 of his 58 points came in the fourth quarter, including 12 in two minutes:

Jackson has scored 40 or more points in seven D-League games this season. Jackson is currently leading the league in scoring at 30.2 points per game, but the 22-year-old has still yet to receive a call-up to the NBA. He was drafted 42nd overall in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers, but was later traded to the New Orleans Pelicans.

Jackson played for the Pelicans at Las Vegas Summer League, but he struggled in limited minutes as he dealt with pink eye. New Orleans still controls Jackson’s rights, and perhaps a call-up will come soon given how well he’s playing in the D-League.
