New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis has been named the NBA All-Star Game replacement for injured guard Kobe Bryant, the NBA announced Friday. Bryant was voted into the Western Conference starting lineup by fans but will miss All-Star weekend as he continues recovering from a knee injury.

Kobe Bryant will miss the All-Star contest because of his knee injury, and the NBA has selected New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis to replace him.

The NBA front office selects injury replacement players for the All-Star Game and its decision makes Davis, the second-year power forward, the hometown representative for the event held in New Orleans. USA Today’s Sam Amick, who first reported Davis’ selection, also reports that Davis was the first player left off the reserve team announced last week. All-Star reserves are voted upon by NBA head coaches.

The 20-year-old has averaged 20.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and a league-leading 3.3 blocks per game in 2013-14.
The Western Conference starting lineup will include Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Kevin Love and Blake Griffin, and Bryant's replacement will likely come from a crop of guards including James Harden, Chris Paul, Tony Parker and Damian Lillard.
Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Scott Brooks will head the West in the All-Star Game and will select Bryant's replacement in the starting lineup. The list of reserve frontcourt players who join Davis on the roster include Dwight Howard, LaMarcus Aldridge and Dirk Nowitzki.
