Chris Paul injury: Clippers star to return Sunday vs. 76ers

After missing over a month, CP3 looks ready to return this weekend.

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul will make his return Sunday when the Philadelphia 76ers visit Staples Center, via Arash Markazi of ESPN Los Angeles. Paul has been out since Jan. 3 with a separated right shoulder, but has been practicing the past week and will be ready to go this weekend.

Clippers head coach Doc Rivers spoke before practice Saturday and provided the good news, via ESPN:

“I think it’s going to take Chris some time to get his rhythm back,” Rivers said before practice. “That’s why I am hoping he is healthy and we can play him Sunday, have a practice on Tuesday and play him Wednesday. I think that helps. I think it’s going to take a couple weeks for him to get his rhythm back, no doubt.”

With the All-Star Game next weekend, many have wondered whether Paul would return in time to participate, and that’s still unclear even if he plays Sunday. The Clippers, given their title aspirations, surely will be cautious with their star, but he’s also sat for the past month and might have some rust to shake off.

Darren Collison started the 18 games that Paul missed, leading the team to a 12-6 record. Blake Griffin stepped up and looked like a superstar during the stretch, averaging 27.5 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game and shooting 55.4 percent from the field.
