Paul Pierce led the way with 29 points, Mirza Teletovic added 17 off the bench and the Brooklyn Nets knocked off the Miami Heat, 96-95, on Wednesday night. A close game throughout the second half, the Nets withstood numerous abbreviated runs by the defending champs to continue their success in 2014.

Despite being limited to 31 minutes by five fouls, Pierce had a fantastic game, shooting 5-of-7 from three-point range and 9-of-12 overall. It was all needed, too, on a night when Deron Williams and Joe Johnson mostly struggled. D-Will only hit two field goals in his 35 minutes, though one came on this clutch jumper in the last minute:
Williams shot just 2-of-8 from the field, finishing with six points and eight assists. Johnson was even worse, shooting 2-of-10 for just eight points while committing five turnovers.
That inconsistent backcourt play gave Miami chances to come back, but the Heat just couldn't put it all together. LeBron James had another quiet game, going for 19 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Chris Bosh scored 24 points, and Dwyane Wade added 22.
