NBA lottery watch 2014: Kings in ‘battle’ at bottom of Western Conference

The Kings’ overtime victory over the Wizards was fun, but it could hurt their chances at a higher draft pick. Meanwhile, the Bucks are still somehow worse than the Sixers.

With yet another disappointing season winding down, the Sacramento Kings find themselves in an interesting spot. Despite boasting a good amount of talent, the Kings are in a "battle" for the worst record in the Western Conference with the Los Angeles Lakers and Utah Jazz.

At this point, securing that worst record in the West is probably in the Kings' best interest in order to have the best chance of nabbing a higher draft pick to add to the stable of young talent already in place. Those chances did take a hit on Tuesday after Sacramento outlasted the Washington Wizards in overtime thanks to a first career triple-double from Isaiah Thomas, who's making his case for a lucrative contract this offseason.

With the win, the Kings are now 22-44, one game ahead of the Lakers (tied in the loss column) and two games ahead of the Jazz. Sacramento currently owns the seventh-worst record in the NBA, although they aren't far behind the Detroit Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers. The Pistons currently look like a train wreck, while injuries to Kyrie Irving and Luol Deng could send the Cavs further down the standings.

The very bottom of the league somehow still belongs to the Milwaukee Bucks, despite the fact the Philadelphia 76ers have lost a whopping 21 games in a row. The Bucks remain 2½ games worse than the Sixers, which shows just how terrible Milwaukee has been this season.

The Orlando Magic, losers of six straight, are apparently trying their best to catch the Sixers and Bucks at the bottom of the standings. However, Philadelphia and Milwaukee are so bad it appears that's not likely. Orlando is currently 3½ games better than Philly.

Here’s the full look at how the lottery is shaping up:
