Kansas star Andrew Wiggins declares for NBA Draft
As expected, the freshman phenom will leave Kansas after one season.

Kansas Jayhawks star freshman Andrew Wiggins announced he will enter the 2014 NBA Draft at a press conference at on Monday.

— Rustin Dodd (@rustindodd) March 31, 2014 The decision is no surprise to anybody, as Wiggins was always expected to be a one-and-done college player. The athletic wing came to Kansas from Canada as one of the most hyped pro prospects since LeBron James, and while Wiggins may not have been as dominant as some hoped, he still had a very good season.
The Hook
Wiggins averaged 17.1 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting 44.8 percent from the field and 34.1 percent from three for the Jayhawks. Wiggins had several dominant performances with fellow frosh phenom Joel Embiid on the pine late in the year because of a back injury, but he and Kansas were stunned by the Stanford Cardinal in the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament. Wiggins finished the 60-57 loss with just four points on 1-of-6 shooting.
The poor effort against Stanford should have little bearing on Wiggins’ draft stock. The 19-year-old is still expected to be a top-three pick in the upcoming draft, and he’s projected as the No. 1 pick in the latest mock draft from DraftExpress.
