Rick Adelman will not return to the Minnesota Timberwolves for the 2014-15 season, according to Sid Hartman of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Adelman will announce his retirement in a news conference on Monday morning at 11 a.m. ET, according to Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune, and it will be streamed on the Timberwolves' official website.

The veteran coach will announce his retirement on Monday after a 23-year career that saw him pile up over 1,000 wins.

Rumors about Adelman’s future have swirled for much of the season, with reports indicating he was likely to retire because of family health issues. Adelman has taken several leaves of absence as his wife faced illness, and it was an open question whether he would coach this season.
Adelman spent 23 seasons on the sidelines, and completed his third season as the Wolves’ head coach. He was unable to get Minnesota into the postseason in any of those years, and this season the team came one game short of the its first .500 campaign in almost a decade.
Adelman led teams to a .500-or-better record in 17 seasons, and compiled 1,042 wins and 749 losses. He took two teams to the NBA Finals, going 79-78 in the postseason as the head coach of the Trail Blazers, Warriors, Kings, Rockets and Timberwolves.
Hartman mentioned Fred Hoiberg, Tom Izzo and current Wolves president Flip Saunders as potential replacements.
