Wolves’ Dante Cunningham arrested for 2nd time in past week

Cunningham was arrested Sunday after getting arrested Thursday for a domestic issue.

Minnesota Timberwolves forward Dante Cunningham was arrested Sunday on "suspicion of terrorist threats" Sunday, marking the second time Cunningham has been arrested in the past week, according to Leslie Dyste of KSTP.com.

Cunningham was first arrested on Thursday for “suspicion of domestic assault” early Thursday morning in Wayzata, Minn. A criminal complaint filed in Hennepin County District Court alleges that Cunningham’s girlfriend told Medina Police that he slammed her against the wall and choked her for 15 to 20 seconds during an argument. She didn’t require any medical attention, and the 26-year-old forward didn’t resist arrest.

Cunningham was released from jail on Friday and rejoined the Wolves in Orlando on Saturday before his second arrest. Minnesota law states terroristic threats involve a situation where a person directly or indirectly threatens to commit any crime of violence with the purpose of terrorizing another.

The team released this statement following the second arrest:

“The situation with Dante Cunningham is very fluid and we continue to monitor all available information. We reiterate that the Minnesota Timberwolves do not condone the behavior described in the accusations. We continue to wait for the legal process to run its course and will have further comment when appropriate.”

Medina Police wouldn’t comment on the arrest, but more details will be released in the coming days.

Cunningham is averaging 6.1 points and 4.1 rebounds in 20 minutes per game this season.
