The Cleveland Cavaliers' vacancy at general manager is close to being filled by current acting GM David Griffin, according to Mary Schmitt Boyer of The Plains Dealer. Griffin replaced former general manager Chris Grant, who was fired on Feb. 6, and Cleveland's preference is to make it a permanent hiring.

The Cavaliers haven’t made it official, but acting general manager David Griffin is their top choice to fill the vacancy after the team interviewed a handful of candidates.

Griffin was able to make adjustments to the Cavaliers' roster once he replaced Grant. He acquired Spencer Hawes from the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Earl Clark and Henry Sims as his first move as GM. Griffin also held on to the expiring contract of forward Luol Deng, who was an acquisition for the Cavs under Grant.
The Cavaliers interviewed four or five "serious" candidates for the job but Griffin stood out as their top choice, according to Schmitt Boyer. Griffin has been involved in the NBA since 1993, beginning his career with the Phoenix Suns as an intern. He joined the Cleveland franchise in 2010 and was named the team's Vice President of Basketball Operations. If the Cavaliers and Griffin to reach a deal it will be his first official general manager role.
