Mike Brown's second tour of duty in Cleveland didn't last very long. The Cavaliers announced Monday afternoon they have fired Brown after just one season. The team also announced they have hired David Griffin as their next general manager.

Brown was rehired by Cleveland last April after a brief term as the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. The Cavs went just 33-49 this season, though that was more wins than the team achieved in any of the previous three seasons under Byron Scott.

Brown's initial head coaching gig with the Cavs lasted from 2005 to 2010, during which he led them to five consecutive playoff appearances, made the 2007 NBA Finals and was named the 2009 Coach of the Year.

Griffin is an inside hire as the general manager. He took over as the interim GM in February after the firing of Chris Grant.

Cavs blog Fear the Sword offered analysis on the potential move late last week:

In his time as interim GM he orchestrated the trade at the deadline for Spencer Hawes. If Griffin does end up getting the position, it's believed that he would try to build an offensive team like the one he was a part of during his 17 years in the Phoenix Suns organization.
