2014 NBA Draft combine measurements: Dante Exum is indeed quite big, Doug McDermott not so much

The measurements are in from this year’s NBA Draft combine, and as usual, there’s a mix of good news and bad news for different prospects.

The biggest names from the 2014 NBA Draft -- Andrew Wiggins, Jabari Parker, Joel Embiid -- passed up this year's combine, but the rest of an impressive class is in Chicago for the league's biggest pre-draft event. The combine gives us a chance to learn a little more about some marquee names, particularly when it comes to their measurables.

We all know media guides and athletic departments can occasionally fudge the numbers on these things, but the combine gives NBA evaluators a chance to get some real data. And as always, the latest numbers can tell us a little extra about the guys who will be announced at Barclays Center next month.

Among the big takeaways from the measurements in Chicago is the impressive size of Australian guard Dante Exum. A strong showing isn't surprising given the hype he's cultivated over the past few months, but at 6'6 in shoes with a wingspan near 6'10, he could potentially challenge Michael Carter-Williams for the title of biggest young point guard.

Meanwhile, the results don’t look too hot for Creighton star Doug McDermott, who measured at just 6’6.25 without shoes and a wingspan smaller than Exum’s. While shooting ability will remain his calling card, the lack of size could hurt McDermott’s stock in the coming weeks.

UConn star Shabazz Napier also measured poorly, with a shoeless height of 5’11 and a wingspan just over 6’3. We already knew he was small, but this just underscores the kind of physical disadvantages he’ll have at basketball’s highest level.

There are dozens of prospects who participated in the combine this week, and you can find the full combine measurements for the past 15 years over at Draft Express. Below are the numbers for 20 of the biggest names in Chicago right now:
