Having coached more than 700 NBA games, Alvin Gentry is among the most-experienced head coaching candidates available. The current Clippers assistant is drawing interest, including from the Jazz, who are expected to interview him for their head coaching vacancy, according to Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports.

In addition to Utah, the Cleveland Cavaliers have also contacted Los Angeles about interviewing Gentry, while the Warriors and Kings are interested in him as an assistant coach, according to Spears. Gentry has served as a NBA head coach four times, most recently with Phoenix from 2008-2013. Gentry joined the Clippers as Doc Rivers' lead assistant after being fired by the Suns. According to Spears, Gentry was tasked with running the Clippers offense this season and the Clippers led the league in scoring at 107.9 points per game.

Unlike some of the candidates currently being considered around the league, Gentry has extensive experience as an NBA head coach. He compiled a 335-370 (.475) record and is 12-9 in two postseason appearances. His most successful season came in 2009-10, when he guided the Suns to a 54-28 record and trip to the Western Conference Finals.

The Jazz are in search of a candidate to replace Tyrone Corbin after he was fired following four seasons in Utah. Chicago assistant Adrian Griffin previously interviewed with Utah while former Jazz star John Stockton and current Blazers guard Earl Watson have either been rumored as a potential candidate or shown interest in the vacancy.

Gentry is among several coaches mentioned as candidates to replace Mike Brown in Cleveland. In addition to Gentry, Mary Schmitt Boyer of the Cleveland Plain Dealer mentioned Vinny Del Negro, Lionel Hollins and Mark Jackson as other likely candidates.
