Dave Joerger reportedly close to taking Timberwolves coaching job

The upheaval in Memphis continues.

Memphis Grizzlies coach Dave Joerger is close to accepting a deal to become the coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

According to Wojnarowski, Grizzlies and Timberwolves officials have begun discussing compensation to let Joerger, a Minnesota native, out of his contract in Memphis.

Joerger's discussions to leave for Minnesota are the latest development in an organization-wide upheaval that led to Jason Levien resigning as the team's CEO last week after a clash with owner Robert Pera. Joerger was promoted to head coach after Pera purged team management a year ago and coach Lionel Hollins' contract was not renewed after an appearance in the Western Conference finals.

Joerger was 50-32 in his first season as an NBA head coach after six seasons as an assistant coach in Memphis. The Grizzlies earned the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference and lost in seven games to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round of the playoffs.

Minnesota is hiring a head coach after Rick Adelman announced his retirement in April. Adelman had been coach of the Timberwolves since 2011, totaling a record of 97-133.

The Timberwolves have the longest active playoff drought, having not qualified for the postseason since 2004.
