Philadelphia 76ers rookie Michael Carter-Williams will be named the 2014 Rookie of the Year, reports Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com. Carter-Williams averaged 16.7 points and 6.3 assists and 6.2 rebounds per game through his rookie campaign, earning four Rookie of the Month awards along the way.
The official announcement will likely come next week, according to Shorr-Parks.
The 76ers had a down year despite having the super-productive point guard in their lineup. Carter-Williams notched 16 double-doubles and two triple-doubles over 70 games. He also made NBA history with fellow rookie Victor Oladipo when they became the first pair of rookies to finish a game with a triple-double.
Carter-Williams was drafted out of Syracuse with the 11th pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. He follows Damian Lillard, Kyrie Irving, Blake Griffin, Tyreke Evans and Derrick Rose as the previous five Rookie of the Year award winners. He will be the second Rookie of the Year award winner in 76ers franchise history, joining Allen iverson in achieving this feat.
