After a long rest thanks to a first-round sweep of the Charlotte Bobcats, the two-time defending champion Miami Heat finally take the court again Tuesday against the Brooklyn Nets in the Eastern Conference Semifinals of the 2014 NBA Playoffs at AmericanAirlines Arena.

The Heat enjoyed over a week of rest as they waited for the rest of the thrilling first-round to finish up. The Nets played in one of the five Game 7's of the opening round, going on the road and defeating the Toronto Raptors 104-103 after Paul Pierce blocked Kyle Lowry's potential game-winning attempt in the final seconds.

While Miami cruised in the first round, things stand to be more difficult against Brooklyn. The Nets won all four regular-season meetings against the Heat, and while regular-season outcomes aren’t always the best predictor of what may happen if teams meet in the playoffs, they have been in these cases. In the 25 previous times two teams matched up in a best-of-seven series after one of the teams won all four regular-season meetings, that regular-season winner also went on to win the postseason series.

Of course, that doesn't mean the Nets are the favorite in this series. Brooklyn won three of the regular-season meetings by one point, and the fourth went to double-overtime, so every game was hotly contested. And although showing the ability to pull those games out was impressive, the Heat's propensity to ramp things up in the postseason could make all the difference. Miami is healthy and well-rested, and it also helps to have the best player in the world in LeBron James.
