Afflalo enjoyed a career-best season in Orlando in 2013-14, averaging 18.2 points per game while developing into a scorer capable of creating his own offense. He will make $7.5 million next season and has a $7.75 million option for the 2015-16 season.
Chicago owns the 16th and 19th picks in the 2014 NBA Draft and presumably would have to part with at least one of those selections in a package to attain Afflalo. Orlando already owns the fourth and 12th overall selections, but is still looking to add even more to its core of young players.
Wojnarowski also reports that the Bulls have “shown a strong interest in moving one of their top picks” and are particularly interested in flipping their No. 19 pick for a future first-round selection. Chicago is trying to preserve cap space for July’s free agency period and doesn’t want to take on two rookie-scale first round contracts, according to Wojnarowski’s sources.
