Bucks interested in Jason Kidd as head coach, discussing trade with Nets

There were rumors that Kidd wanted a front-office position with the Bucks, but he’s only being considered as a head coaching candidate.

After Jason Kidd's failed power play to become president of basketball operations with the Brooklyn Nets, it was initially believed that Kidd had eyes on a similar position with the Milwaukee Bucks. However, the Bucks have only talked to Kidd about the head coaching position, according to Eric Buenning of Brew Hoop and Charles Gardner of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Kidd met with new Bucks owners Marc Lasry and Wesley Edens on Friday after the Nets granted him permission to seek out the opportunity. Brooklyn ownership is ready to move on from Kidd after a rather tumultuous first season and an attempt by the coach to be put above general manager Billy King in the organizational hierarchy. While initial rumors had Kidd looking for similar power in Milwaukee, Buenning says he never requested an executive role.

The situation is expected to be resolved in the next 24 hours, and the major hang-up right now is that of compensation. Gardner and ESPN’s Andy Katz report the Bucks are offering a 2015 second-round pick for Kidd, but the Nets want a 2015 first-rounder. Katz says the negotiations are currently being handled by King and Bucks general manager John Hammond, and if the Nets don’t budge on their demands, Milwaukee is prepared to “move on.”

This all leaves current Bucks head coach Larry Drew in an awkward situation. Drew hasn't been fired yet, and if Milwaukee and Brooklyn can't come to an agreement on Kidd compensation, Katz says "there will be an issue" between the coach and the team. Hammond's job is expected to be safe no matter what.
