The trial of alleged Brooklyn drug lord Roland Herron took a curious turn into the sports world on Monday when Washington Wizards forward Al Harrington was mentioned in relation to the investigation, according to the New York Daily News.

Herron is on trial for running a violent gang out of an area housing project, distributing crack and organizing a retaliatory murder when one of his lieutenants was shot. Defense lawyers are attempting to paint the picture of a man looking to forge a burgeoning rap career, rather than one of violence. Harrington was mentioned as a primary investor in this venture, in addition federal prosecutors presented 22 minutes of YouTube videos of Herron’s rap videos, several of which featured Harrington.
The Wizards forward is originally from Orange, New Jersey and played for the New York Knicks from 2008-10.
Harrington’s agent Dan Feagen did not return a call from the New York Daily News, nor has Harrington made a statement on the issue. It’s unclear whether Harrington will further be mentioned in the case after the presiding judge ended the defense’s cross-examination of a witness, which centered on Harrington’s involvement, due to lack of relevance.
