It's a replay of last season, just as so many predicted. Game 1 of the 2014 NBA Finals begins on Thursday, with the Miami Heat traveling to Texas to take on the San Antonio Spurs.

In a matchup for the ages, the Heat try to make a run at a three-peat while the Spurs try to go out on top.

San Antonio took six games to dispatch the Oklahoma City Thunder, waiting until overtime on May 31 to duck a missed Russell Westbrook three-pointer to advance to their second Finals in as many seasons. Meanwhile, the Heat dominated the Pacers in their final game, 117-92, to square off with the Spurs for the second year in a row.
For Miami, trying to dissect the Spurs once again will prove difficult. Indiana was able to gameplan against the Heat defense well enough in three games of the Eastern Conference Finals. San Antonio’s Gregg Popovich has a decidedly better offensive gameplan, and one of the regular season’s top offenses.
How the Heat cover the sideline pick-and-roll with Tony Parker and in switches for Boris Diaw are sure to factor large in Game 1. Danny Green, who roasted Miami in the first five games of the Finals last year, will likely be a target for the Heat defense.
The first entry into this year’s Finals will let us know just how much these two teams have learned from each other after a year apart.
