The Heat May have missed out on bringing LeBron James back to Miami, but they have been successful in re-signing several of their other free agents. Mario Chalmers became the latest player to re-up when he agreed to a two-year deal to return, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.

Chalmers was originally not expected to return to Miami, according to Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel. That, however, was when James was still widely expected to return to the Heat. Without him and even with Chris Bosh returning on a max contract, the Heat had more room to maneuver. That made keeping Chalmers a more manageable proposition.

The 28-year-old Chalmers will enter his seventh season with the Heat. He will likely return to the starting lineup with Norris Cole and rookie Shabazz Napier backing him up. The trio should combine to give Miami solid depth at the point. Chalmers could play a bigger role next season with James' departure. He averaged 9.8 points, 4.9 assists and 2.9 rebounds per game last year.

The deal with Chalmers is just the latest in a series of moves from the Heat since James announced he was heading to Cleveland. Miami signed Chris Bosh to a max deal, added Luol Deng on a two-year deal and are working on re-signing Dwyane Wade.
