Manu Ginobili diagnosed with stress fracture, will likely miss FIBA World Cup

The Spurs guard developed a stress fracture in his leg late in the season and will now need two months to recover.

It turns out Patty Mills wasn't the only member of the Spurs playing through an unknown injury during San Antonio's run to the NBA Championship. Manu Ginobili played through a stress fracture in his right leg, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

The injury, which was discovered during Ginobili's exit physical with the Spurs, is expected to sideline the guard for two months. While that timeline won't impact the 36-year-old from being ready for the start of next season, it will likely keep him from playing for Argentina in the FIBA Basketball World Cup this summer, per Wojnarowski.

According to the report, the stress fracture is in the early stages and likely developed late in the season. Ginobili plans to get a second medical opinion. Had the injury developed sooner, or been discovered during the season, there may have been a very different outcome in the NBA Finals. Ginobili once again played a key role for the Spurs, averaging 12.3 points, 4.3 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game during the season. His scoring went up in the postseason and he averaged 14.4 points per game in the Finals. He hit a number of key shots for the Spurs, including a late three-pointer in Game 6 against Oklahoma City that helped San Antonio send the game to overtime where the Spurs eventually won and clinched the Western Conference.

In addition to Ginobili, point guard Tony Parker played through hamstring and ankle injuries during the postseason while Mills played through a torn rotator cuff injury that will require surgery and could sideline him for seven months.
