Lakers hire Byron Scott as new head coach, according to report
Byron Scott has landed a multi-year deal to be the next head coach of the Lakers.

The Lakers hold a team option on the fourth year, according to Shelburne.
Kobe Bryant
Scott held multiple interviews with the Lakers following Mike D'Antoni's resignation. Los Angeles' list of candidates dwindled throughout the off-season while the front office focused on the NBA Draft and free agency, and Scott was vocal in lobbying for the position. Kobe Bryant also publicly endorsed Scott. Scott previously played for the Lakers during the "Showtime" Lakers era, capturing three NBA titles.
Scott last coached the Cleveland Cavaliers through the 2012-13 season, finishing the season with a 24-58 record. His all-time coaching record is 416-521 through 937 games. Scott’s hiring makes him the third Lakers coach in four seasons. This will be the fourth team for which Scott will serve as head coach.
