Team USA's scrimmage abruptly and appropriately ended after Paul George suffered a horrifying leg injury. It was a scary and devastating moment that has opened an entire discussion of player rights versus management obligations. But there was still something good to take away from the scrimmage: the performance of Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose.

OK, it’s still too early to say he’s fully back, but the Bulls star looked spry and healthy in Las Vegas.

The former MVP missed the entire 2012-13 season with a torn ACL and then played just 10 games last year before tearing the meniscus in his other knee. In his first live action since November of 2013, Rose looked confident, fast and explosive in the open for the blue team during the intrasquad scrimmage.
Rose was lightning quick with the ball in his hands. He could plant and cut off both legs and he even threw back a two-handed tomahawk jam for old times’ sake. His best play might have been his third field goal, when he took the ball the length of the court in three dribbles and finished with an acrobatic layup at the rim. He beat all five defenders to the paint.

In all, Rose finished with eight points, but that’s beside the point. Rose is healthy and even in a night that was filled with heartbreak, tears and tragedy, that’s something to smile about.
