Michael Beasley will work out for the Spurs

The former Miami Heat forward will continue a workout tour with the defending champs this week.

The No. 2 overall pick from the 2008 draft, Michael Beasley, will continue searching for a new team, and Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reports the free agent forward will work out for the San Antonio Spurs this week.

The Spurs apparently will leave no rock unturned as they prepare to lock somebody into their final roster spot. They have 14 players under contract but could still bring back Australian center Aron Baynes, who is a restricted free agent.

If Beasley is a serious option for San Antonio, he will be one that comes with risk.

Beasley had a second go-around with the Miami Heat last year and reportedly didn't impress LeBron James and coach Erik Spoelstra, according to the Boston Globe's Gary Washburn. Beasley played in 55 games, averaging 7.9 points and 3.1 rebounds in 15 minutes during those outings. He showed promising signs by hitting a career-high 49.9 percent and a solid 38.9 percent from three-point range. Still, Beasley's focus on the defensive end has been a major issue, as have his off court issues.

The Phoenix Suns are still paying Beasley and used the stretch provision to waive the forward after the 2012-13 season, following several bump-ins with the law. The last of which, an arrest on marijuana charges, was the final straw. The Suns and former general manager Lance Blanks originally signed Beasley to a three-year, $18 million contract, and Blanks lost his job after the 2012-13 season.

Giving Beasley responsibility didn't work in Phoenix and neither did putting him in a nurturing situation with James in Miami. Some tough love by Gregg Popovich and the Spurs would be another, different attempt to save Beasley's career.

Beasley has also worked out twice with the Los Angeles Lakers and been on other teams' radar. Joining the defending champion Spurs might be the most intriguing destination of all.
