Good morning, let’s talk about Dario Saric and embezzlement

That and a whole lot more in Tuesday’s NBA newsletter.

Good morning. Let’s basketball.

DIENG! The story of the FIBA World Cup so far is Senegal, who is 2-1 with a signature win over medal contender Croatia. Senegal is led by former Louisville Cardinal and current Timberwolf Gorgui Dieng, who is pretty awesome. The interesting thing is that FIBA dissolved the Senegalese Basketball Federation last year due to age fabrication at the under-19 level. Senegal got reinstated in time to join the World Cup.

As of early Tuesday morning, Spain, Serbia and Greece (Giannis!) have advanced to the knockouts and no one has been eliminated. Spain and Team USA look spectacular. Here’s our post with all results and the schedule.

A BIT OF FIBA RIDICULOUSNESS: FIBA still won’t end its ban on religious headgear. Absolutely absurd.

RONDO WEIRDNESS: Jackie MacMullan, who is never wrong, said in an ESPN video recorded during the breaks of Around The Horn that Rajon Rondo has asked for a trade. Someone noticed the video a few days later. That led to Rondo and his agent denying it and ESPN yanking the video. How weird!

[SPEECHLESS]: The sordid saga of Dario Saric. Good lord.

WELP: Kevin Durant is apparently going to stay with Nike after all of that.

WHAT A TURKEY: Hedo Turkoglu is about the rejoin the Clippers. New Boris!

BUSY LABOR DAY: The Kings traded Jason Terry and a couple of seconds to Houston for unguaranteed players and cap space and waived Wayne Ellington, who I legitimately forgot was on the Kings roster.

PAIN INTOLERANCE: The Lakers’ longtime physical therapist talks Kobe.

LESSON: It’s really hard to tell if someone having a career three-point shooting year is improved or if it’s just noise. As such, it’s best to use career three-point shooting or a recent average instead of year-to-year shooting.

MEET CHRYSA CHIN: The NBA’s VP of player development has been a mentor and life coach to many a player. Neat profile on someone fans wouldn’t know.

$IXERS: Derek Bodner on the finances of the Hinkie Plan.

MORE PHILLY: Hal Brown argues that the Sixers are rebuilding with an identity by pushing the pace and heaving up lots of threes.

MANNY PACQUIAO IN A WARRIORS JERSEY. Do what you will with that.

AMAZING: Via @docrostov by way of Haberstroh, Tim Duncan’s honor thesis at Wake Forest was titled “Blowhards, Snobs and Narcissists: Interpersonal Reactions to Excessive Egotism.” Good gravy, Tim.

DANGIT: We missed out on having David Lynch direct a video for Kanye’s “Blood on the Leaves.”

Happy Tuesday. See you next time.
