New Orleans Pelicans guard Tyreke Evans is in jeopardy of missing the start of the 2014-15 season after suffering a strained right hamstring. The injury is expected to sideline Evans for 3-5 weeks, which will keep him out of training camp and possibly the season opener at the end of October.

The Pelicans say the injury occurred in a pickup basketball game.
“Tyreke injured his hamstring playing pickup basketball out of town last week,” stated General Manager Dell Demps. “He is back in New Orleans rehabbing with our medical staff. Hopefully, he will be cleared to play before the season-opener.”
If Evans returns in three weeks, he’ll be fine for the opener. If it’s five weeks, he won’t return until after Nov. 1. The Pelicans’ opener is on Sept. 28 against Orlando, and they also play on Nov. 1 against Dallas.
Evans struggled for much of his first season in New Orleans while adjusting to a bench role, but found his groove late in the season once injuries struck elsewhere and was expected to return to the starting lineup this year. He averaged 14.5 points, five assists and 4.7 rebounds per game, but posted a true shooting percentage of just 50.4 percent.
