2014 FIBA World Cup results: USA, Spain, Slovenia, Greece clinch groups

The group stage is almost complete in Spain and four teams have clinched with a game to spare.

Group C

United States 106, Dominican Republic 71

Team USA was up by just three after the first quarter but took over the game through the remainder of the game. A 22-0 run that lasted from the third and into the fourth quarter, led by its frontcourt trio of Kenneth Faried, Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins, turned the game into a rout. Team USA clinched Group C with a game remaining against Ukraine Thursday. Kenneth Faried had another big game on the international stage, scoring a game-high 16 points to go with his six rebounds, including this monster putback:

New Zealand 73, Ukraine 61

Everard Bartlett was on fire from beyond the arc, draining four of his five three-point attempts to push New Zealand to a victory over Ukraine. Ukraine also struggled containing Kirk Penney, who scored a game-high 17 points while grabbing seven rebounds. New Zealand outrebounded Ukraine, 48-25, and had more offensive rebounds (18) than Ukraine did defensive (17).

Turkey 77, Finland 73

Turkey went into halftime down 14 points but locked Finland down through the second half to force overtime. Turkey outscored Finlan 9-5 in overtime, notching a big win. Omer Asik had a monster game, scoring 22 points and pulling down eight rebounds to snap Turkey's two-game losing streak and keep their hopes alive of advancing to the knockout stage.

Group D

Australia 70, Mexico 62

Aron Baynes dominated Mexico with a 21-point, five-rebound, three-block outing that gave Australia its third straight victory in the knockout stage. Joe Ingles was scoreless but dished out five assists and grabbed fived rebounds. Mexico shot 41 percent from beyond the arc, but couldn't put the brakes on Australia's offense in the third quarter, getting outscored 26-13. Mexico made a fourth-quarter push, but couldn't pull off the upset. Australia is now 3-1 through the opening phase

Slovenia 93, Angola 87

Slovenia remains unbeaten, led by Domen Lorbek's 17 points. Goran Dragic also had a good game, finishing with 14 points and two assists while shooting four-of-six from beyond the arc. Angola's Roberto Fortes scored a game-high 21 points, but it wasn't enough to knock off the powerhouse team in Group D.

Lithuania 79, Korea 49

Lithuania had no problem dispatching Korea in this 30-point blowout. Adas Juskevicius scored a game-high 20 points, while the frontcourt duo of Jonas Valanciunas and Donatas Motiejunas combined for 30 points and 15 rebounds for Lithuania. Korea drops to 1-3 through the group stage while Lithuania notches its third victory.

Group B

Puerto Rico 77, Philippines 73

This was a battle between two of the top five scorers through the first stage of the FIBA World Cup as Jose Barea and Andray Blatche filled up the stat sheet. Barea finished the game with a game-high 30 points and notched Puerto Rico's first win of the tournament. Blatche put in 25 points of his own while grabbing 14 rebounds, but the Philippines remain winless with just one game remaining to dodge a complete shutout in Spain.

Argentina 81, Senegal 46

Speaking of top scorers, Luis Scola filled in 22 points and 14 rebounds of his own in this blowout victory over Senegal. Scola continues to be one of the best offensive players in Spain, pushing Argentina to a 3-1 record. Gorgui Dieng finished the game with 11 points and eight rebounds for Senegal.

Greece 76, Croatia 65

Bojan Bogdanovic scored a game-high 20 points for Croatia but it wasn't enough to hand Greece their first loss of the 2014 FIBA World Cup. Greece shot a blistering 65 percent from the field as a team, outscoring Croatia 20-9 in the second quarter to secure its lead and fourth victory of the tournament. Nikos Zisis dished out 10 assists, which was a big tipping point in this game. Greece out-assisted Croatia, 23-9, getting easy baskets to clinch Group B.

Group A

Spain 88, France 64

Spain had no trouble in a 24-point victory over France in what was a rematch from the 2013 Eurobasket Finals. Marc Gasol handled the scoring load for Spain, scoring a game-high 17 points. Pau Gasol, the FIBA World Cup scoring leader entering the game, added in 15 points, and Serge Ibaka grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. Nicolas Batum struggled, shooting just 5-of-15 from the field for 11 points. Spain remains undefeated heading into its final game, clinching Group A.

Iran 88, Egypt 73

This was a game between two teams desperate for a win, and Iran emerged as the country to get its first victory. Hamed Haddadi had a monster game, scoring 23 points along with 15 rebounds, leading Iran to a victory and avoiding getting blanked through the group stage. Samad Nikkhah Bahrami was locked in from deep, making six of his nine three-point attempts for Iran.

Brazil 81, Serbia 73

Tiago Splitter showed off his all-around game as Brazil pulled away from Serbia in the fourth quarter. Splitter finished the game with 10 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Leandro Barbosa added in 16 points, and Marcus Vieira scored a game-high 21 points.
