There’s actually a good reason for this!


But there’s actually a reasonable explanation for this. The clocks had stopped working in Denver, meaning time was being kept by the announcer. When Minnesota turned the ball over and Barton picked it up, the announcer had been counting down the shot clock, which was in the final seconds. Barton, thinking the announcer was counting down the game clock, not the shot clock, fired away on the fast break, even though he had 10 seconds.
Since we’re in Denver, we can’t even pretend like this was an elaborate scheme from the sideline to give their team advantage. Maybe Barton could have been slightly more aware of where the game clock was, but in general, it’s tough to fault him for this one.
