Dr. Frasier Crane can save the Sacramento Kings

The Sacramento Kings defeated the Brooklyn Nets on Friday 111-109. The win can be attributed to a stellar night by DeMacrus Cousins, who ended his night with 40 points — including 21 points in the third quarter alone. That’s quite an amazing feat!

One can also point to Rajon Rondo. After averaging 12 points and 8.6 assists in the last ten games, the veteran point guard went off for 23 points, 14 assists, and 10 rebounds for a triple double. The Kings possibly won because the Nets are one of the worst teams in the NBA with a 1-8 record. But it’s neither of those options.

The reason the Kings won on Friday was because of Dr. Frasier Crane.

Kelsey Grammar joined Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé courtside. They both seemed to enjoy the win.

But why would THE Dr. Frasier Crane head to Sacramento to watch a basketball game? Frasier was probably invited to the game because he and Vivek have a fond taste for sherry and frequent the same art galleries.

Even then, Frasier’s basketball experience in Sacramento wasn’t the most momentous sports-related event of his life. Remember, he did get to see his younger brother Niles successfully attempt a half court shot during a Seattle Supersonics game, but watching the Kings win — despite all the turmoil within the team — is a grand feat in its own right.

Now that the Sonics have moved to Oklahoma City and become the Thunder, Frasier doesn’t have a team to root for. Why not his pal Ranadivé ‘s team? One person who was thrilled to see both the win and Frasier was Kings legend and president of basketball operations Vlade Divac, who know considers Frasier a good luck charm of sorts.

Who can say no to Vlade Divac? Despite his initial unwillingness to participate in professional sports, Frasier will undoubtedly say yes. If not to be polite to the Kings general manager, but to maintain his relationship with Ranadivé.

Being at the game is one thing, but Frasier can do so much more to help out the Sacramento Kings. His background as a psychiatrist and as a media personality can do wonders for the team as it tries to find its identity amongst the Pacific Division titans in the Los Angeles Clippers and champion Golden State Warriors.

In regards to the team’s chemistry, who better than to quell the vivacious egos of George Karl, Boogie Cousins, and Rajon Rondo? Well, Dr. Frasier Crane is listening. Despite Cousins’ obvious disdain towards Karl benching him in the third quarter on Friday, he maintained his composure and sealed the win in the fourth. With all the free time to rest and blow some steam on the bench, wouldn’t it have been eerily convenient for a professional psychiatrist to provide some assistance?

With his years of experience providing quick help to people that called in to his show, Frasier can provide short psychological commentary on the team’s offense and defense without hesitation. If he has the time, he can even provide the media that has been surrounding this Kings’ squad.

Even more, Frasier’s involvement with the team might not be all work. After talking to Rajon Rondo for a few hours, maybe the two will gain a better appreciation of each other. Frasier is a connoisseur of the sophisticated and highly logical. So is Rondo, who will immediately walk away from a movie once he finds a significant plot hole.

And if need be, he can always call upon the help of Niles in case of any more Kings’ locker room screaming. All Niles would do is simply remind the Kings of the always-important sayings of Herodotus: “Circumstances rule men; men do not rule circumstances.”

So while Frasier and Niles won’t be at every game with Sacramento, they can at least pass on some pivotal psychological advice to help build team chemistry to become contenders in the competitive Western Conference.

Until the Kings sign him full time, all Frasier will say is, “Goodbye Sacramento, and good mental health.”
