Anthony Davis will join a growing list of players forced out of the NBA All-Star game due to injury as the New Orleans Pelicans' big man will not play in the game due to a shoulder sprain. Davis announced the decision on Wednesday and said he was anxious to get healthy and back on the court with his teammates.

”After careful thought and consideration, I’ve decided I will not be participating in this year’s NBA All-Star competitions. I want to thank the fans for voting me into the All-Star game and I am sorry I will not be able to play.
While I’m disappointed that I won’t be able to compete this weekend, I’m still very excited about the opportunity to be a part of the All-Star events in New York and celebrate our game with some of the NBA’s greatest figures.
More than anything, I am anxious to get healthy and back on the court with my teammates after the All-Star break.”
Davis is in the midst of an MVP-caliber season. He’s averaging 24.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game. He turned in a masterful performance last week, scoring 41 points and hitting a contested three-pointer for the win. He took a big fall off a dunk the next night, however, and suffered the sprained shoulder that will keep him from participating in the All Star game in New York.
Davis is not the first player to be forced out of the game due to injury. Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade and Blake Griffin have already knocked out of the All Star game due to injury while the status of Carmelo Anthony and Jimmy Butler remain unsettled.
