Good morning. We’re sad about Anthony Davis too, Drake.

That and more in Thursday’s NBA newsletter. Subscribe!

Good morning. The All-Star break is here! (It is hardly much of a break for much of anyone.) Let’s basketball.

EVAN THE HAWKS: The Celtics can add another clutch win to their tally as Evan Turner felled the Hawks at the buzzer. Evan Turner! Doing things!

AHAHAHAHA: Big Baby totally tabletopped Josh Smith. He’s just like a kid out there.

YIKESVILLE: Nick Young caught Steve Blake with that old banana peel on the crossover.

IN YOUR (MY) FACE: One of the great risks of dunking very hard is that you might hurt someone’s face, and that face might be your own. Shabazz Muhammad learned that the hard way on Wednesday.

SAD DRAKE: What it says on the box. Let it be known that Drake was later happy as the Raptors beat the Wizards, leading to Drake sorta trolling Paul Pierce.

TODAY IN RICKY RUBIO IS MAGICAL: Amazing save, Ricky!

IMPORTANT RESULTS: The Pelicans lost, the Thunder won (against Memphis!), the Clippers beat Houston, and all other playoff teams that played (save Washington and the aforementioned Hawks) won. Catch our recaps at the NBA Scores hub.

ANT MAN OUT, DIRK IN: Anthony Davis is nursing a sprained shoulder, so he’ll miss the All-Star Game. Dirk Nowitzki takes his place. Meanwhile, Steve Kerr selected Klay Thompson to start for Kobe Bryant and James Harden will start for Blake Griffin. He’ll need to pick a starter replacement for Ant Man, and I’d be willing to bet he’ll pick old teammate/friend Tim Duncan, in part to piss off old teammate/friend Tim Duncan.

TWO MORE APPRECIATIONS: Prada on how Giannis Antetokounmpo is reinventing the game, and me on James Harden’s grimy, ruthless style.

THE NIGHT VINSANITY WAS BORN: Zach Harper looks back 15 years at the dunk contest that gave us Vinsanity.

IMPORTANT TRADE DEMAND NEWS: Enes Kanter wants out.

THERE WE GO: Keith Olbermann’s segment on Charles Barkley’s analytics rant is titled “Charles Barkley is an idiot.” That is very vitriol of him.

DONE! The Kings reached a deal with George Karl in the wee hours. He’ll be introduced soon and take over the team. What a strange season for a team very familiar with strange seasons.

LEBRON’S POWER: Very interesting piece by Ramona Shelburne on LeBron’s off-court power.

THE SWISS ARMY KNIVES: Brett Koremenos appreciates three Bucks who can do everything.

THE VIEW FROM ABOVE: Rob Mahoney on Anthony Davis’ place in the NBA.

We’ll be back with a small GMIB on Friday and some action over the weekend as well. Happy Thursday, and see you next time.
