New Orleans Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis left the game on Saturday after taking a hard fall following a dunk. Davis came down hard on his right shoulder, and though he stayed in the game initially he was later taken back to the locker room and later ruled out for the rest of the game. According to the Pelicans’ broadcast, Davis suffered a contusion but X-rays were negative. Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports reported Davis came away feeling “just sore.”
Anthony Davis injury: Pelicans’ big man out after taking hard fall
Davis initially stayed in the game before heading back to the locker room.

The injury occurred late in the second quarter. Davis blocked a shot on the defensive end and got out ahead of the pack, running the court and catching an alley-oop dunk all in one motion. His momentum, however, left him off-balance following the dunk and he was unable to keep hold of the rim to swing back. His hands slipped off and he came down hard on his shoulder.
Davis is a massive part of the Pelicans’ attack, leading New Orleans in points per game at 24.9, rebounds per game at 10.4 and blocks per game at 2.8. This is the second recent injury scare for Davis. He landed awkwardly last week and had to have an MRI on his knee.
