As for what we’re going to be doing in this space: The goal here will be to help you fill out your lineup. This post will be for the games on Sunday, March 22 and I’ll be talking about the lineup that I’m going to be going with. Let’s get started.
The stars
Russell Westbrook, PG, Thunder ($13,300): By this point you know the deal with Westbrook, so really what else can be said? Yeah, it's a crazy amount of money. But here are his FanDuel totals from his last five games: 55, 56.2, 54.6, 60 and 66. You're getting bang for your buck here. Miami, who the Thunder play on Sunday, have no one who can slow Westbrook down.
Kenneth Faried, PF, Nuggets ($7,200): Faried has become one of the top fantasy power forwards since Denver fired Brian Shaw and promoted assistant coach Melvin Hunt. Hunt's been the head man for 11 games. Over that stretch Faried is averaging 15.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, one steal and shooting 57.2 percent from the field. The Manimal plays the Magic on Sunday. On the season Orlando is allowing opposing power forwards to score 39.9 FanDuel points per game, the seventh worst number in the league (per Rotoworld). Oh, and over the team's last five games that number has jumped to 43.5.
Mid-priced players
J.J. Redick, SG, Clippers ($6,600): Redick hasn't shot this well since he left Duke. With Jamal Crawford out the Clippers have leaned on Redick more and the veteran has responded with perhaps the best stretch of his career. Over his last 10 games he's averaging 22.1 points and shooting 42 percent from deep and 49 percent from the field. Redick is also adding in 3.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists in the nearly 38 minutes he's playing per game over that stretch. He's become one of the Clippers' primary offensive weapons.
Chandler Parsons, SF, Mavericks ($6,200): Another player who's been shooting lights out of late, only Parsons also has a great matchup on Sunday. First, the numbers: over his last 10 games Parsons is averaging 14.7 points, to go along with 5.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists. He's also been shooting 44 percent from the field and 43.8 percent from behind the three-point line. As for his matchup -- the Nuggets, who the Mavericks face Sunday, have been allowing apposing small forwards to score a league-high 37.4 FanDuel points per game this year, per Rotoworld. You can't ask for more than a hot shooter going up against a team that can't stop players at his position.
Avery Bradley, SG, Celtics ($6,000): This is mostly about opportunity, or, in this case necessity. Isaiah Thomas is out with a back injury and Marcus Smart has been suspended for Sunday's game. That leaves Bradley as Boston's primary, and really sole ball handler and shot creator. That's a good thing. Bradley's been going for 15.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists over his last five games. Those numbers should go up Sunday when he faces the Pistons.
Ersan Ilyasova, SF, Bucks ($5,700): Nothing fancy here, just solid play. Since the Brandon Knight trade Illyasova has become Milwaukee's primary offensive threat. He's averaging 16.6 points and 8.4 rebounds over his last five games. He won't give you much more that than, but there's something to be said for a player who you also know won't let you down.
Ish Smith, PG, Sixers ($5,700): One of the few Sixers taking advantage of all those minutes he's now getting. He's had 33 FanDuel points in each of his last two games and he's averaging 17.3 points, 8.3 assists and 2.0 steals in his last three games. You can't ask for much more at this price. He's also facing the Lakers on Sunday, who are (you guessed it) worst in the league from a FanDuel perspective when it comes to guarding opposing point guards (per Rotoworld).
Steven Adams, C, Thunder ($5,500): Seemingly everyone on the Thunder is injured, which means Adams is now getting the opportunity to shine. And shine he has. Over his last four games Adams is averaging 13.8 points, 12.0 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and 1.0 blocks in 33.8 minutes. That last number is the key one. Serge Ibaka is out for a while and Enes Kanter is questionable for Sunday. That means OKC needs Adams on the court.
The Rest
Maurice Harkless, SF, Magic ($3,700): Today's gamble. What are the reasons for being optimistic? Tobias Harris, the Magic's starting small forward, is likely out with an ankle injury. Also the team Orlando is playing, the Nuggets, are allowing opposing small forwards to score an average of 40.6 FanDuel points over their last 10 games, the second highest number in the league over that stretch (per Rotoworld). Harkless has mostly struggled this year, but he did score 18 points two games ago and he has shown flashes in the past. This is certainly a gamble, but it's also one that allows you to have the cash needed to play Russell Westbrook.
