Patrick Beverley to miss rest of season with wrist injury

The Rockets will be without their starting point guard this postseason.

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Houston Rockets starting point guard Patrick Beverley will undergo season-ending surgery to repair torn ligaments in his left wrist, according to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle. Beverley sustained the injury last week in Indiana.

Since then, Beverley has been seeking out specialists to determine whether he’d risk further damage by playing out the season with the injury. Last year Beverley partially tore his meniscus late in March and delayed surgery until after the postseason.

Beverley is averaging 10 points, three assists, four rebounds and one steal in 31 minutes per game. He’s shooting 36 percent from behind the three-point line while battling a right elbow injury all season, but his defense is top-notch at the position.

The Rockets are 50-23 and currently in second place in the Western Conference. They’ve won four in a row, including the three games in which Beverley has been out. Veterans Jason Terry and Pablo Prigioni will now take over the team’s point guard duties, with rookie Nick Johnson perhaps getting some spot minutes.
