The Denver Nuggets have started to identify candidates for the franchise’s open head coaching position, and their list includes two of the most highly regarded coaches in college basketball. The Nuggets’ list includes Florida’s Billy Donovan and Iowa State’s Fred Hoiberg, in addition to former NBA head coaches Mike D’Antoni, Mike Malone and Scott Skiles, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Interim coach Melvin Hunt will also be in the mix.

Interim coach Melvin Hunt will also garner “serious consideration” from GM Tim Connelly, according to Wojnarowski. Hunt led the Nuggets to a 10-13 mark to close the season after Brian Shaw was fired on March 3.
Hoiberg and Donovan appear to be two of the hottest college coaches in NBA circles. On Thursday, Wojnarowski reported Donovan could also be a candidate for the Thunder job if Scott Brooks is let go. Hoiberg has previously been connected to the Chicago Bulls should the team fire Tom Thibodeau.
The Nuggets finished 30-52 this past season. Denver is positioned at No. 7 in the draft lottery.
