Lou Williams named Sixth Man of the Year

The Raptors reserve guard beat out Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas for the honor.

Raptors guard Lou Williams has been named the 2014-2015 NBA Sixth Man of the Year. Williams averaged 15.5 points per game this season and helped lead Toronto to a 49-33 record and an Atlantic Division title.

Celtics point guard Isaiah Thomas finished second in the voting. He received 33 first place votes while Williams received 78. Jamal Crawford finished a distant third, with eight first place votes. Andre Iguodala received seven first place votes, Tristan Thompson six, Nikola Mirotic four and Taj Gibson three, while Marreese Speights, Corey Brewer and Chris Kaman each received one.

This if the first that Williams, a 10-year veteran, has won this honor. The 15.5 points per game he averaged this year was a career high. The 28-year-old Williams also averaged two assists and one steal per game and shot 40 percent from the field.

This season, his first in Toronto, Williams emerged as a key offensive player for the Raptors. His offensive rating of 111.3 was the 11th-highest number among players who played more than 20 minutes per game this season, according to NBA.com, and the highest among such players on his team.
