Chandler Parsons out for Game 2 vs. Rockets

Parsons will sit out Game 2 because of his nagging knee injury.

Dallas Mavericks forward Chandler Parsons will miss Game 2 against the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night because of his nagging right knee injury, coach Rick Carlisle announced prior to tip-off. Point guard Devin Harris will also be sidelined, leaving the team shorthanded for a huge game on the road.

Parsons missed the last six games of the regular season with the injury, and after a setback in the last week of the season, his status for Game 1 of the series was in doubt. The 26-year-old returned to the lineup and played 37 minutes despite leaving the game in the second quarter and getting treatment in the locker room. However, he scored just 10 points on 5-of-15 shooting overall and 0-of-4 from three-point range.

Parsons aggravated the knee injury thanks to an awkward landing in the first half. Parsons said his leg “just kind of gave out on” on him, according to Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News, and the forward sat out of practice on Monday.

With Parsons out, Richard Jefferson will get the start. Jefferson played just four minutes in Game 1 and recorded one rebound and one personal foul. The 34-year-old has shot well from three off the bench this season, but he's a clear downgrade from Parsons, which isn't good news for Dallas as they try to even up the series on the road.
