Stephen Curry injury: Warriors star returns after scary fall

Warriors star and reigning MVP Stephen Curry exited Game 4 against the Houston Rockets after taking a scary fall in the second quarter. Curry tried to block Trevor Ariza’s shot and tumbled to the ground. A stretcher came out to take Curry off the court, but he walked off under his own power with the help of the team medical staff.

Curry has been diagnosed with a “head contusion”. After undergoing testing in the third quarter, Curry made his way back to the bench and will return to the game after doctors cleared him.

Curry’s first shot upon returning was an air ball:

Curry looked dazed and he left to the court to a standing ovation from the Houston crowd:

Curry’s mother was visibly distressed after the play:

The Warriors were already trailed big at the time of the injury. The Rockets tied an NBA playoff record by scoring 45 first quarter points. Curry had 11 points on 3-for-7 shooting (all three-pointers) at the time of the injury.

When Curry returned, his mother could barely look:

Curry missed only two games for the Warriors this season. He won the MVP by averaging 23.8 points and 7.7 assists per game this season on 44.3 percent shooting from three-point range. For the series against the Rockets, he was averaging 29.5 points per game on 55.3 percent three-point shooting.

The NBA does have specific concussion protocol a player must go through before returning to game action. We’ll update this post as it develops.
