The Miami Heat want to get a commitment from Goran Dragic early in free agency this summer. They will reportedly offer the point guard a five-year deal worth more than $80 million, according to Marc Stein of ESPN. That is a hefty offer, but still falls short of a maximum deal.
Heat will reportedly offer Goran Dragic 5-year deal worth more than $80 million
That’s still short of the maximum Dragic could receive from Miami.

Dragic made $7.5 million last season and had a player option to make the same for the 2015-16 season, but the 2014 third-team All-NBA selection opted out of that for a pay raise this summer. The Heat are the only team who can offer him a five-year deal, but at $80 million, wouldn’t be offering him a max contract. A max deal would total more than $100 million over five years for Dragic.
Other teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks could only offer four-year deals for as much as $85 million.
After acquiring Dragic from the Phoenix Suns at the trade deadline, the Heat want to lock down their point guard with a long-term deal. Then, they can shift their focus to working out a deal with Dwyane Wade, who is currently in a dispute with the franchise.
Dragic has said more than once this summer that he wants to return to Miami, and the Heat want Dragic to return.
In his 28 games with the Heat, Dragic averaged 16.6 points and 5.3 assists in 34.8 minutes per game.
