NBA Draft results 2015: Terry Rozier picked by Boston Celtics

Rozier jumped off the board earlier than expected to Brad Stevens and Boston.

SB Nation's 2015 NBA Draft Tracker

Terry Rozier has been drafted with the No. 16 pick by the Boston Celtics. He's the first Louisville Cardinal to be drafted, with Montrezl Harrell expected to be drafted soon. The point guard led Louisville to the Elite Eight last season and comes to the NBA ready to score and distribute.

Rozier scored in bunches and ran the offense at Louisville. He averaged 17.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and three assists per game his sophomore season. Those numbers jumped dramatically after his freshman year, when he was backing up Russ Smith. The offense ran through Rozier, who stands 6’1 and weighs 190 pounds. He shot 41 percent from the floor in 35 minutes per game. He’s a tough point guard with a 6’6 wingspan who can play defense at a high level.

Rozier does need to work on his shooting. After hitting 37 percent from behind the arc as a freshman, Rozier struggled to shoot from deep during his sophomore season, hitting just 30 percent. However, he had to take more shots as a sophomore, he was the team’s best offensive player. In the NBA, Rozier can be a valuable addition coming off the bench as both a creator who can dish off to a teammate for an easy bucket or as a shooter who can pile up points quickly.

Jeff Clark of CelticsBlog isn’t a fan of the selection.

My initial reaction is that I hate this pick. Rozier most likely would have been available lower in the draft -- maybe even at the 28th pick. I don't understand why we have to double down on yet another point guard ... Maybe this means more moves are afoot. Maybe this means the Celtics aren't as high on Smart as they would like us to believe ... I don't really know what to think at this point. I'm disappointed that we didn't trade up and I'm not impressed with the pick.

Rozier is a surprise at No. 16, but Brad Stevens and the Celtics reached for a player it felt fit well in its system.

Now, Celtics fans just have to figure out who Rozier is. Hint: He likes jumping into pools and eating strange pasta.
