Knicks trade Tim Hardaway Jr. for No. 19 pick, draft Jerian Grant

New York sends away Hardaway to draft a different guard.

The New York Knicks have sent Tim Hardaway Jr. to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for the No. 19 pick, which they will use on Jerian Grant, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Hardaway Jr. was drafted by New York two years ago and has had two decent seasons, but he’s an inefficient scorer and struggles to consistently hit the three-pointer. Atlanta clearly sees something in the combo guard while the Knicks have chosen to move on with Grant, a 6’5 point guard from Notre Dame.

Grant has the point skills that Hardaway Jr. lacked and may fit in Phil Jackson’s desired triangle system in New York. Hardaway Jr. had been rumored to be on the trade blocks for a while now and, hopefully, his fit in Atlanta is better for his still young career (he is just 23).
