2015 NBA Draft results: Lakers select Larry Nance Jr. at No. 27

Nance is a power forward out of Wyoming.

The Los Angeles Lakers select Larry Nance with the No. 27 pick of the 2015 NBA Draft, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Nance Jr.‘s draft stock rose rapidly in the final days leading up to the draft, so much so that he snuck into the first round. He’s a 6’8 power forward who stayed all four years at Wyoming and averaged 16.1 points as a senior. He averaged seven rebounds, shot 51 percent from the floor and even hit a few three-pointers at a 31 percent rate, although he doesn’t immediately project to be a shooter from behind the arc in the NBA unless he can extend his range.

Drew Garrison of Silver Screen and Roll, SB Nation’s Lakers blog, is hoping that Nance Jr. will continue GM Mitch Kupchak’s habit of discovering solid players later in the draft.

Kupchak has a great track record in the draft, and hopefully they’ve landed another gem with their second first-round pick for this draft. If they can mine another talented prospect to build alongside their main building blocks it could be a huge step for the massive rebuild the Lakers have shifted into.

Without an ACL tear as a junior, Nance Jr. might have headed to the draft sooner. With the Lakers, Nance Jr. projects to be a bench player who can provide energy and backup players like Julius Randle and Jordan Hill.
