The 34-year-old shooting guard is owed nearly $25 million in the final season of his contract.

The Brooklyn Nets are trying to unload Joe Johnson as the veteran shooting guard enters the final season of his contract, according to Marc Stein of ESPN. Brooklyn talked to the Memphis Grizzlies about a potential Johnson trade but couldn't find a "workable framework" to complete the deal, according to Stein.

Johnson is owed $24.8 million next season for the final season of a six-year, $123 million deal he signed with the Atlanta Hawks in the summer of 2010. While it appears that Johnson won't be on the move to Memphis, Stein reports that Brooklyn "came away encouraged they'll ultimately find a taker" for Johnson.

Johnson will be 34 years old this season. He can still be a durable and productive player. Johnson averaged 14.4 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 80 games for the Nets last season.

The Grizzlies have also been rumored to be pursuing Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari. After coming away with mixed results on their midseason trade of Jeff Green, Memphis is clearly being active in trying to upgrade its perimeter attack.
