The 2015 NBA Finals is generating record TV ratings
People are tuning in to watch LeBron James and Stephen Curry.
This year's NBA Finals, featuring LeBron James and Stephen Curry, is living up to the hype, so people everywhere are tuning in. The Cavaliers' Game 2 overtime win registered a 12.9 overnight rating, a 26 percent uptick from Game 2 of last season's finals, ESPN announced.
Game 1, which took place Thursday night and also went into overtime, recorded a 10.6, according to ESPN. ABC has never had a Game 1 or Game 2 of the NBA Finals reach these numbers since its first year broadcasting the event in 2003, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
This is the first time in NBA history that the first two games of the Finals have gone into overtime. The Tony Awards and HBO’s Game of Thrones were airing at the same time on Sunday, which makes that 12.9 rating even more impressive.
Game 3 of the NBA Finals will take place Tuesday night in Cleveland and air on ABC. Tipoff is at 9 p.m. ET.
