Free-agent forward Jonas Jerebko has agreed to a two-year, $10 million deal to stay with the Boston Celtics, according to USA Today's Sam Amick.
Jonas Jerebko agrees to 2-year, $10 million contract with Celtics
Boston keeps the stretch-4 under contract after he flourished at the end of the season.
Until he arrived in Boston halfway through last season, Jerebko's minutes had steadily declined each year from his decent rookie season, where he averaged 28 minutes per game. With the Celtics, Jerebko became a solid rotation piece as a floor-stretching forward, averaging seven points and knocking down 41 percent of his three-pointers.
Jerebko was the 39th pick in the 2009 draft by Detroit, but carved out a role for himself anyway. Although he only hit about 30 percent of his threes through his first three seasons, it was enough to earn some respect as a shooter while hitting the glass and helping out in other ways, too. His minutes declined when the Pistons experimented with the Andre Drummond, Greg Monroe, Josh Smith backcourt, so Jerebko's trade to Boston was a breath of fresh air for the Swedish shooter.
Boston has one big man shooter in Kelly Olynyk, but you can never have too much shooting for an NBA team. Jerebko has a versatile skill set and makes it easy for head coach Brad Stevens to deploy him successfully in games.
