Shane Larkin agrees to 2-year, $3 million deal with the Nets

Larkin will have a new chance to prove he belongs in the league.

Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Sports

Shane Larkin has agreed to a two-year, $3 million deal with the Brooklyn Nets, reports Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

Larkin was drafted No. 18 overall in 2013 by the Hawks (with a pick originally acquired from the Nets, coincidentally) and immediately traded to the Mavericks, where he struggled to get playing time his rookie season. He was later packaged with Jose Calderon, Samuel Dalembert and Wayne Ellington and sent to the Knicks in the trade that landed Tyson Chandler in Dallas.

He had a chance to play for the Knicks, starting 22 games, but didn’t excel in that role nor as a backup. His contract option wasn’t picked up, which allowed him to enter free agency.

With the Nets, he will fight for minutes off the bench with Jarrett Jack and be insurance in case Deron Williams continues to struggle to stay healthy.

This will likely be Larkin’s last chance to establish himself as an NBA player, but he’ll turn just 23 in October so he could still develop into a quality bench piece.

Larkin averaged six points and three assists for the Knicks last season while shooting 43 percent from the floor.
