Lakers president of basketball operations Jim Buss said last April that he will resign in Los Angeles isn't able to make a deep playoff run in three years. That timeline is still in place, team president Jeanie Buss said in a radio interview with 89.3 KPCC on Thursday.
Jeanie Buss expects brother Jim to step down if Lakers don’t contend within 2 years
Jim Buss promised that the Lakers would be in contention by 2017 or he’d resign.

"Would I make those changes? Yes," Jeanie Buss said in the interview. "My brother understands that we have to continue to strive for greatness and I think he would be the first one to feel that he would need to step down if he can't get us to that point."
Los Angeles just concluded the first year of the three-year rebuild and are stockpiling young, talented players like Julius Randle, D'Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson. However, taking a step to become a playoff team in the stacked Western Conference, much less a contender, is a much more difficult one.
However, with the star power associated with the Lakers and the big market, Los Angeles is always linked to marquee free agents and may be able to sign one in the coming offseason. If not, Jeanie Buss may have to make a hard decision to live up to the ultimatums both she and her brother have laid forth.
